Rick Sommer, Ph.D.

Dr. Sommer held the position of Gabor Szego Assistant Professor at Stanford before taking on his SUMaC role, which he held for over 25 years. Dr. Sommer has done extensive work at Stanford in designing and operating programs for pre-college students including both residential academic summer programs and online courses. Dr. Sommer was Deputy Director of the Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) prior to serving as Executive Director of Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies for many years. Currently, Dr. Sommer is a lecturer in the departments of Mathematics and Philosophy at Stanford, and teaches courses in Logic and Set Theory.
